Accessibility

We aim for the chat widget, the dashboard and this website to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 at level AA. Last reviewed 3 October 2026.

Where we are

Partially conformant, self-assessed. We checked our own product; no independent auditor has reviewed it yet. Some parts don’t fully meet the standard, and we list the ones we know about below.

Our conformance report, in the VPAT 2.5 format, is available on request through the contact page. It is self-assessed too.

How we checked

  • Automated checks with axe-core (WCAG 2.0 and 2.1, levels A and AA) on 47 page states: the public pages, every dashboard page and assistant settings tab, the sign-in and other dialogs while open, the mobile menus, and the chat widget while open, at desktop and phone widths. None reported a problem. Automated rules find only some kinds of problems, so we also checked by hand.
  • Keyboard checks: opening and closing the chat widget, moving through it with Tab, sending a message, closing it with Escape and landing back on the button that opened it; the same for the sign-in dialog, the product slides and the mobile menus.
  • Checks of what assistive technology is told: names of buttons and fields, dialog roles, and that new chat replies are announced.
  • All of this was in Chromium. We haven’t yet tested with screen readers (NVDA, JAWS, VoiceOver, TalkBack), with Safari or Firefox, or with people who use assistive technology.

The chat widget

  • Opens as a dialog: focus moves into it, stays there while it’s open, and Escape closes it.
  • Replies are announced to screen readers when they finish, not word by word.
  • Every button has a name, form fields have labels, and errors are tied to the field they’re about.
  • Text on your brand colour is set to white or near-black, whichever has more contrast.
  • It fits a 320-pixel-wide window without sideways scrolling, and grows with browser zoom.

What doesn’t work fully yet

  • Not tested with real screen readers or by people with disabilities (see above).
  • A very light brand colour can make the widget’s focus outline and its suggestion chip borders hard to see on a white background. The Appearance settings warn when a colour is under 3:1 against the background.
  • The widget sets its text sizes in pixels, so it grows with browser zoom but not with a larger default text size chosen in browser settings.
  • Content you add (your website pages, documents and the answers built from them) is only as accessible as its source.
  • Moving content on this website (the animated examples and product slides) can be paused with “Pause animations” in the header, and starts paused if your device asks for reduced motion. The pause applies to this website, not the dashboard.
